FAQs - Adult Education

What is an Adult Education grant?  Grants are awarded for academic coursework, professional development, or vocational training. They can be used to support and advance your current career, or to help you start a new one. They are not awarded for life-long-learning or for hobby interests.

How much is the award?  Grants vary year-to-year based on the financial health of the Adult Ed account. Find current award amount at https://www.andoveredfund.org/adult-ed, and note that grants may be suspended in any given year if the account has insufficient funds. Grants awards listed are the maximum amount given, but may be lower depending on the cost of your program. See the Adult Ed Policy for details.

If I receive a grant, how can I use the money?  Grants can be applied to fees, tuition, books, required technology, and/or course materials.

Who can apply?  Current residents of Andover, Maine aged 25 or over at the time the course or training begins. Applicants must claim Andover, Maine as their primary residence.

When can I apply?  Submit your application any time for review on a rolling basis.

Where Do I Start?  Go to the Adult Ed page on this website to get an application and read the full policy, or pick up a packet at the Andover Library during regular hours.

Can I ask for help?  Yes, you absolutely can ask for help. Contact the Adult Ed Coordinator, Penny Percival, at adulted@andoveredfund.org. She would be happy to sit down to talk with you about this program.
